Using toolkits to strengthen population health surveillance during COVID-19

Health systems worldwide weakened during the COVID-19 pandemic. With weakened health systems, it is difficult to monitor population health and wellbeing. To address these weaknesses, the World Health Organization developed Strengthening population health surveillance: a tool for selecting indicators to signal and monitor the wider effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. While gender is not a specific focus of the tool, collecting demographic information is important for monitoring the wellbeing of a population.
