How crime and helpline data show the impact of COVID-19 in reported gender-based violence

To understand the severity of gender-based violence (GBV) during the COVID-19 pandemic, crime and helpline data can provide insights in place of traditional surveys. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime published a research brief using administrative crime data in 26 countries and helpline data in 6 countries. It is important to note that while administrative crime data and helpline data serve as short-term solutions, GBV and victimization surveys provide greater insights across time.
