Towards High-Resolution Sex-Disaggregated Dynamic Mapping

To support gender-equitable development and meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an improved understanding of women’s and girls’ lives is crucial.

Yet detailed, reliable, and timely information on the spatial distribution and experiences of intended international aid recipients in low-income countries — including women and girls — is rarely available, making it difficult for aid agencies to effectively and equitably distribute resources.

In this report, the Flowminder Foundation finds that combining traditional survey data sources with digital data (including geolocated survey data, satellite imagery, and mobile phone data) can provide a more detailed understanding of women’s and girls’ lives in Nepal. This finding holds great promise for creating well-being monitoring systems that allow for gender-sensitive development responses.
