Achieving girls’ economic empowerment means taking into account girls’ social and health realities so they can make healthy transitions to adulthood.

In this report, the Population Council identifies and analyzes five challenges that can affect girls’ economic futures. The report puts forth measures of girls’ economic empowerment to assess progress on combating these challenges.

The report finds that it is not sufficient to simply replicate women’s economic programming and  apply it to adolescent girls due to the way puberty, societal pressures, and gender norms affect girls’ interactions.
