Using social media to understand gender-based violence during elections

While there are existing tools to measure gender-based violence in households, measuring data beyond households– especially at a time of national elections — becomes trickier. The International Foundation for Electoral Systems VAWIE-Online Social Media Analysis tool uses social media data to measure real-time gender aspects and the drivers of online election violence against women. To date, this tool has been piloted during national elections in Ukraine and Zimbabwe.
