Providing financial support to surveys on gender-based violence

Donors play an important role in filling the gender data gap on violence. In 2020, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation committed a grant of $500,000 to the Human Sciences Research Council in South Africa to support a national survey that will provide baseline data on gender-based violence prevalence and patterns in South Africa and serve as a model for other countries in line with the African Union priorities.
