Women and men have different sustainable development priorities; for example, women might prioritize gender equality, while men might prioritize protection of land and water.
This report describes one method for understanding the differences in sustainable development priorities: sex-disaggregating social media data.
In partnership with Data2X and Leiden University’s Centre for Innovation, UN Global Pulse developed open source software that sex-disaggregates Twitter posts. One possible application of this software is to better understand the different experiences of women and men on topics related to sustainable development.
The tool shows several examples of the insights that can be gleaned about the differences between how men and women discuss global development on social media.
