While gender equality and gender data have been increasingly recognized as global priorities, gender data remains underfinanced. In two research briefs, Data2X and Open Data Watch review official development assistance (ODA) and domestic resourcing for gender data. The first examines the current state of ODA for gender data, including trends in financing mechanisms and donor and recipient countries. The second surveys national statistical plans to assess how funding is sourced and allocated by countries and the challenges they face. Taken together, these briefs indicate that well-coordinated, sustainable financing remains a key barrier to building strong gender data systems.
