Women across the world face social and legal barriers to accessing financial services.
To increase women’s financial inclusion, we need a better understanding of the different ways in which men and women interact with mobile phones and mobile money. One way to do this is to increase the availability and use of sex-disaggregated mobile data.
This report shows how sex-disaggregated mobile phone data can be used to examine gender-related differences in mobile phone and mobile money usage in Uganda. It concludes that this data can provide important insights into women’s lived experiences and should be used by policymakers to help alleviate the economic and social barriers women face.
