At COP29, Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change extended the Enhanced Lima Work Programme on Gender for ten years—a significant step towards long-term gender mainstreaming across UNFCCC policies. An associated Gender Action Plan (GAP), intended to outline corresponding activities and goals, will be negotiated throughout 2025. As Parties embark upon designing this new framework—and as UNFCCC prepares to host a technical workshop at SB 62 to support their deliberations—Data2X was pleased to formally submit the following policy brief to UNFCCC for consideration, urging Parties to include gender data as a core pillar of the next GAP in order to meaningfully advance gender-responsive climate action.
